A dark coming-of-age tale where slice-of-life slices back。

I feel kind of bad giving this a 2/5, but I gotta be honest, it didn't really work for me。 Very long, very tedious, and I don't think anyone who's been subjected to the last 30 years of graphic novels will be especially gripped by its insights into depression。that said though, there was a lot i liked about it! Good art, good layout, good pacing (although the photocopied backgrounds are not a choice I endorse。) Even the things that made it kind of a slog are admirable, in a way。 For example, the I feel kind of bad giving this a 2/5, but I gotta be honest, it didn't really work for me。 Very long, very tedious, and I don't think anyone who's been subjected to the last 30 years of graphic novels will be especially gripped by its insights into depression。that said though, there was a lot i liked about it! My favorite piece of fiction。 Period。 Full stop。 There is not a single word, frame, page, or line out of place in this entire book。 Every piece of dialogue exchanged is magic。 How do you even create something of this quality? How is it even possible? This is what made me want to become a storyteller。 There is not a single doubt in my mind about it。 How can someone read this and not be utterly speechless and inspired at the same time?Fleeting memories of a time long ago。Unkept promises。Guilt。 Fea My favorite piece of fiction。 Period。 Full stop。 There is not a single word, frame, page, or line out of place in this entire book。 Every piece of dialogue exchanged is magic。 How do you even create something of this quality? [4。5/5] spoiler warning - okay so i have a lot of thoughts on this series。 my main takeaway from this is to never ever be like punpun。 i may have also read this too fast。 i read 20 chapters, took a break for a month, then read the final 120 in two days。 so yeah, that might be a hinderance to my views on this book。 it didn't really have an effect on me mentally, i guess, only the first 20 chapters really made me feel anything。 the only times i cried was when punpun's mom died, because she seemed [4。5/5] spoiler warning - okay so i have a lot of thoughts on this series。 my main takeaway from this is to never ever be like punpun。 i may have also read this too fast。 i read 20 chapters, took a break for a month, then read the final 120 in two days。 so yeah, that might be a hinderance to my views on this book。 it didn't really have an effect on me mentally, i guess, only the first 20 chapters really made me feel anything。 the only times i cried was when punpun's mom died, because she seemed like she wanted to at least try to get better, but she didn't have enough time, and when shimizu forgot seki。 all of the other stuff was just straight up disturbing, but i'm pretty sure it was supposed to be。 i wish there was more about the cult in the end。 。。。more

This was probably one of the hardest manga I ever read on my whole life。The first 2 volumes were easy to read, but since volume 3, I took 2 months to finish。 This manga talks about depression, anxiety, life, suicide and a lot more topics。 The character development of the MC is one of the most complex of all manga industry。This Manga, along another mangas I have read, changed my perpective on the world。This is a must-read!

It’s hard to believe that this is the last of the Punpun saga。 It was a hard one to get through in parts, maybe not as hard as #6 though。 Also is maybe my favorite series from Asano right now。

The last review I wrote for this series I wrote after finishing volume three, and looking back on it it's really funny how I had no idea the rollercoaster of a journey Punpun's story would be。 He was a clueless kid when I started reading then he was a depressed teen then he somehow half-stumbled half-fought his way into becoming a broken yet (seemingly) whole adult man。 That ending was in one word: cathartic。Once again, I have to comment on the masterful way Asano takes full advantage of the com The last review I wrote for this series I wrote after finishing volume three, and looking back on it it's really funny how I had no idea the rollercoaster of a journey Punpun's story would be。 He was a clueless kid when I started reading then he was a depressed teen then he somehow half-stumbled half-fought his way into becoming a broken yet (seemingly) whole adult man。 That ending was in one word: cathartic。Once again, I have to comment on the masterful way Asano takes full advantage of the comic/graphic novel/manga medium and truly exemplifies the show don't tell rule of storytelling。 The art isn't just gorgeous to look at but integral in the way the story is told both in tone and text。 The stylistic choices and risks he took throughout the series from Punpun and his families character designs to the interesting POVs he likes to explore all seem to just work。 How can something be both dreamlike and soul-crushingly real at the same time? People come and go from your life and you can’t control that。 You will inherit parts of your parents but you can’t choose what。 Time is fleeting, time is cyclical。 Memories fade but the scars remain, and for better or for worse life goes on。Oyasumi, Punpun。 。。。more

This series wrecked me。 I have a hard time suggesting it to friends because there are some very raw and ugly moments (like, very, *very* uncomfortable and explicit scenes), but as a whole it's a tragic and beautiful coming of age story that feels like it could be you or someone you know。 It doesn't shy away from humor to break things up a bit either。 If you've got a bit of an iron stomach and/or can't get enough of beautifully sad work, please consider this。 If you're a fan of Omori, then this i This series wrecked me。 I have a hard time suggesting it to friends because there are some very raw and ugly moments (like, very, *very* uncomfortable and explicit scenes), but as a whole it's a tragic and beautiful coming of age story that feels like it could be you or someone you know。 It doesn't shy away from humor to break things up a bit either。 If you've got a bit of an iron stomach and/or can't get enough of beautifully sad work, please consider this。 If you're a fan of Omori, then this is a must read。 。。。more

Did not vibe with the ending, the cult storyline did not amount to anything either。 An overall mixed bag conclusion, but the character work with PunPun and Aiko made the read worth it。

Spoilers! Just finished goodnight punpun。。。 i feel empty。 I don't think it's necessary a happy endig nor a sad ending just a ending。 They all deserved better。 I still have many questions like what happened to the body of Aiko? Is punpun now happy or just existing until he dies? And im still angry at Midori for raping Punpun。 Had him broken even further (and probably the reason why he treated woman like that too) and Yuuichi for saying that he isn't mad like wth? You shouldn't be mad in the first Spoilers! Beginning this by saying I’m surprised this wasn’t just added to the 6th volume, it’s much much shorter than every other volume in the series。 Well, here we are, the end of Punpun and I’ve got to say it was。。。mostly disappointing。 If you’re looking for answers to anything here, you will not find them。 It is intentionally vague about Punpun’s fate and what it all meant in general, but I feel as though we need actual answers to what’s going on here。 I usually love vague and open ended finales to s Beginning this by saying I’m surprised this wasn’t just added to the 6th volume, it’s much much shorter than every other volume in the series。 Well, here we are, the end of Punpun and I’ve got to say it was。。。mostly disappointing。 If you’re looking for answers to anything here, you will not find them。 It is intentionally vague about Punpun’s fate and what it all meant in general, but I feel as though we need actual answers to what’s going on here。 I usually love vague and open ended finales to stories, but this just ultimately fell really flat for me。 I think it needed to be much longer and actually show or tell us more of what was actually happening with Punpun and Aiko。 It’s intentionally misleading for almost no reason, considering there’s no real narrative payoff here。 I think almost every character in this deserved much more and the series really did need to ultimately be longer。 Sigh。 At least the art that Asano and company actually DID draw here is good。 。。。more
